2008 Portland Snow: Part 8–January 27, 2009

As the snow melted from this car, it slid down the hood and folded up on the front bumper like a blanket of snow.

Notice how far the snow has slid down the hood of my car compared to the pictures above, which were taken only 30 minutes earlier. (The snow on the windshield later froze, and when I prepared to drive to the store, it broke my scraper.)

By December 27th, the slow thaw was well underway and the roads were mostly clear. The giant pile of snow that had engulfed my car had mostly melted. What was left was being held together by the layer of ice left by freezing rain nearly a week earlier. The slight slope of the parking lot caused the remaining sheet of snow to slide toward the front passenger side corner, leaving the driver's side free of snow and giving the car a "two-faced" look.

The layer of ice hung over the side of the car by several inches, leaving a large ledge at the hood.

There was also a slight ledge over the passenger side doors.

Thanks to the layer of ice from the freezing rain, as the snow melted from this bush, it almost looked like it had been manicured.

By the 24th there hadn't been much more snow, and the accumulation was just starting to melt.
