The U.S. Air Force’s first jet fighter was the Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star, introduced in 1944. In order to train pilots how to fly the new jets, Lockheed modified the P-80 design to include a second seat, creating the T-33A Shooting Star training aircraft in 1948.
