Stationary Engines at Antique Powerland

This 1880 Allis-Chalmers Mill Engine produces 150 horsepower at 80 rpm. It was first installed at the B. P. John's Furniture factory at John's Landing in Portland, Oregon.

In 1927 it was moved to Salem Sash and Door at Ferry and Church Streets in Salem, Oregon. In 1955 it was moved to the Yoder Mill in Yoder, Oregon. It was installed here in 1979.

This Fairbanks-Morse 120-hp engine-generator set powered the first chair lift on Mt. Hood from 1937 until electric service became available in the 1950s. It was acquired by Clyde Schurman, who restored and preserved it.

The Schurman family's Trial Run Trust donated it to the Antique Implement Society, which in 2007 was raising funds for an addition to the Hilands Building to house it.

By 2009, the Mt. Hood Engine-Generator Set had been moved into the Richardson Building, which also contains equipment from a historic machine shop that operated in the the Albany, Oregon area for 60 years.

During the annual Steam Up, stationary engines are displayed outside the Hilands Building. The following engines were at the 2009 Steam-Up on August 1, 2009.

Union Tool 35-Horsepower Ideal Stationary Engine

The Union Tool Company was a subsidiary of the Union Oil Company that built oil field equipment and engines at a plant in Torrance, California, including "Ideal" gas engines like this one. This 35-horsepower Type A Ideal engine was built in 1914 and was used at the Union Oil dock in Astoria, Oregon to pump petroleum products from ships and barges. It is one of only a few outside the state of California and is owned by Dennis King and Bill Peterson.
