Salem's Riverfront Carousel opened in Riverfront Park in June, 2001, after 4.5 years of work.

A total of 43 horses and two wagons were carved. 32 horses and two foals ride the carousel at one time.
Salem’s Riverfront Carousel on September 10, 2006
Each horse took an average of 700 hours to carve and sand, and over 200 hours to apply the three coats of primer, three coats of oil paint, and six coats of clear polyurethane, for a total of 80,000 hours put in by 160 volunteers.

This carousel cow is also displayed at the carousel, though it doesn’t appear that it is ever actually used on the carousel.
Salem’s Riverfront Carousel Band Organ on September 10, 2006
Music for the carousel is provided by a band organ built by the Johnson Organ Company of Fargo, North Dakota. This is a Style 163 band organ.
Morning Glory on September 10, 2006
This bronze sculpture of a carousel horse is outside in front Salem's Riverfront Carousel. Morning Glory was sculpted by Dick Spirup and was cast at Joseph Bronze. It was adopted by Helen & Carl Gerlinger, Mary Gerlinger and Ron & Ann Lyman & family.
