Clackamas River Bridges: Dr. John McLoughlin Memorial Bridge

The first Clackamas River Bridge is the bridge carrying Highway 99E.

It was designed by Conde Balcom McCullough and built under a co-operative agreement between the United States Bureau of Public Roads and the Oregon State Highway Commission, who simply called it the Clackamas River Bridge.

It was constructed by contractor Lindstrom & Feigenson and completed in 1933.

The Oregon City Chamber of Commerce and the McLoughlin Ladies Club of Oregon City dedicated it the Dr. John McLoughlin Memorial Bridge, in honor of the Father of the Oregon Country and the founder of Oregon City.

The bridge is 720 feet long, with a main span of 240 feet.

The bridge won the Annual Award of Merit for Most Beautiful Steel Bridge, Class C from the American Institute of Steel Constructors in 1933.

At each end of the bridge are decorative obelisks with plaques, the text of the which is below. There is one of each at each end.
