Merchants Smith & Wade purchased this property in 1869 and built this building around 1870 as a warehouse for agricultural equipment. After 1884, it became the home of a marble works in the east side and a warehouse for grain, wool and hops on the west side. Reuben P. Boise bought the building in 1890, at which time the west side was a carriage repository, which was replaced by a painting shop by 1895. In late 1910, Reuben and Emily Boise sold the building to their daughter, Mae Lauterman, and the building was renovated to its current appearance. By the mid-1910s, both sides of the building housed garages, and by the mid-1920s, George E. Waters, Inc., a wholesale cigar distributor, was on the west side and the Gospel Mission was on the east side. Mae Lauterman died in 1935 and her husband, John H. Lauterman, retained in interest in the property until his death in 1962. It is currently home to the Cascade Baking Company and La Lumiere Massage
