General Motors Truck Company was formed in 1911 to sell Rapid commercial vehicles. The GMC brand was introduced the following year. This 1918 GMC 1-ton Stakebed Truck is one of 450 of this model GMC built in 1918, primarily for use in World War It was found on a Nebraska farm and still has its original cab. The original flatbed and side racks were built of oak or maple and painted black; the current ones are made of solid red oak. This truck features kerosene running lights, carbide headlights and rounded fenders: all modern features of its time. It was donated by Warren Wedekind.
