The Four Wheel Drive Auto Company of Clintonville, Wisconsin began building trucks and cars in 1912 and today makes heavy duty specialty and off-road vehicles. This 1953 Four Wheel Drive 5-Ton Fire Tanker was purchased new by Portland Engine Company #23. It is powered by a 6-cylinder Hall Scott 332-horsepower engine. It was based at the fire station on NW 24th Street until 1968, then moved to NW St. Helens Road. In the late 1980s it was retired to the Portland Water Department for use at Washington Park. It was restored in 1993 and is on loan from Terry Dovre.
