Louis A. Crandall House on November 22, 2006
This Colonial Revival style house was built around 1906 by Louis A. Crandall as his own home. Louis and his brother Albert I. Crandall operated the Crandall Brothers Planing Mill, which produced high quality furniture designed by Albert as well as building materials. The mill was powered by a steam engine and a fire whistle was installed at the mill to summon the town’s volunteer fire department in times of emergency. Many homes and several commercial buildings including the Lowe Funeral Home were built by the Crandall Brothers with Al Crandall as architect. This house remained in the Crandall family as Louis Crandall had a son who married and returned to Lebanon to live in the house. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 25, 1990.
