Lincoln Hall was built in 1912 as the new home for Portland's Lincoln High School, one of the two oldest high schools west of the Mississippi River since it was established as Portland High School in 1869.

The building was sold to the Vanport Extension School, now Portland State University, after the new Lincoln High School was completed in 1952. It was the college's first building on what is now a 49-acre campus.
