Carnegie Library on June 10, 2009
The Carnegie Library was built with grant assistance from the Carnegie Foundation and was dedicated in September of 1910. In 1912 it became the Dalles City - Wasco County Library in a contract with the Wasco County Court.

The building served as a public library until 1966 when the present library opened at 722 Court Street. It was leased from the city in 1967 to become The Dalles Art Center.

The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 8, 1978.
