100 West Second Street
Old Post Office on June 10, 2009
This Roman Classical-style post office of Tenino sandstone was designed under the direction of Oscar Wenderoth, Supervising Architect of the Treasury, and built in 1915 to replace the previous building used as a post office that was destroyed by fire in 1914. This post office opened in 1916. It was the first federal building constructed in the city of The Dalles and one of nine constructed in the state of Oregon between 1910 and 1920. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 4, 1985. It is no longer used as a post office as a new post office has been built directly on the other side of Second Street. This building is now used as commercial office space and currently houses AmeriTitle.
