This Single Italianate house was built in 1865. Edward H. French, future president of the French & Company Bank, purchased it in 1892 and, with architect C. J. Crandall, enlarged and remodeled it in 1895 to better suit his wife Alice from Boston.

The house was further expanded in a 1980 remodel that enclosed the upper sleeping porch. The house was again renovated in 1991 and served as a restaurant for several owners. It is now home of the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network. The Edward H. French House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 2, 1992.
