It was the first theater west of the Mississippi built specifically for "talkies" and originally featured a Vitaphone sound system. The theater closed in the early 1990s, then reopened in April 1996 after a renovation It closed again in 2004. Later it was used as a concert and event venue before closing again by early 2010. It was purchased by the City of The Dalles in September 2010.
