This Vernacular/Eastlake house was built in 1868 and was the home of Colonel Nicholas B. Sinnott, an early settler at The Dalles and the father of both Nicholas John Sinnott, longtime U.S. Representative from Oregon and Robert Sinnott of Portland, Oregon.

Colonel Sinnott and Major Daniel Handley acquired the Umatilla House in 1859 and made it a world famous hotel of 128 rooms that did more business in a month than all the other hotels in The Dalles combined.
