This J.C. Penney store in The Dalles was established in 1914 as the 63rd store in the chain. It is the second oldest J.C. Penney store in Oregon and the oldest J.C. Penney store in continuous operation in its original location. (The Mother Store in Kemmerer, Wyoming, where James Cash Penny opened his first Golden Rule Store in 1902, is actually that store's third location, having moved into the building in 1929.)
