Sorosis Park is the largest park in The Dalles at 15 acres. It was founded by the Sorosis Club, an early women's organization that also founded the City Park, Carnegie Library and saved the Fort Dalles Surgeon's Quarters. The word sorosis comes from a Greek word meaning a multiple fruit formed from many flowers.

The Sorosis Park Rose Garden was established in 1953 by The Dalles Garden Club. It is now maintained by the Friends of the Rose Garden in cooperation with Northern Wasco County Parks & Recreation. The Rose Garden includes a Memorial Garden and a Veterans Honor Garden.

When Maximilian Vogt died in 1911, he left in his will $5,000 for a fountain "to serve man and beast." The stone came from a quarry in Barre, Vermont two or three years later, and was chiseled by Frank Watts of the Watts Marble Works. The fountain was originally erected at 3rd and Washington Streets. Increased traffic eventually required that the fountain be removed, and it was stored until it was placed here. The Sorosis Park Association and Joseph F. Vogt restored it in 1966, and the Friends of the Rose Garden restored it again in 2000.
